Rod Taylor was a scheduled guest on the CBS Morning News just as his
series "Outlaws" was launching on the network.
His guest spot aired on Friday, Jan. 2, 1987. CBS had shown a special
preview of the pilot the previous Sunday evening (Dec. 28, 1986), and the
first episode was to air on Saturday, Jan. 3, 1987.
The Philadelphia Enquirer noted that "The series' telemovie was a
pleasant surprise, with more wit and character than most of CBS's freshman
programs." The paper called it "Part 'Silverado,' part 'Back to the
Future.'" Another paper mentioned that the telemovie had also performed well
in the ratings, without much promotion.
Rod's appearance on CBS Morning News likely was part of a ramped-up
promotional effort by the network.
The CBS Morning News that day also featured the plays of the year and had
Mario Van Peebles as another celebrity guest. He was coming off a breakout
role in the movie "Heartbreak Ridge." |
